 In any organization it is needed to all employees work with coordination and on right path, with right way so that desired goal and objective could be achieve. To make right and effective decision organization's member need guidance bye following guidelines organization could move forward towards the goal in desired manner. Hence policies are made by the policy maker in the company to provide smooth and effective governance. 

Definition:- Policies guidelines, principles, rules and regulations established by an organization to guide decision making actions and behaviour. The word policy is taken from the Greek word Politeia, the bird Politeia means clear and published polity.  Policies are put to provide framework for consistence and effective decision making so that organization goal could be promote. Policies can be applied to wide range of area such as safety, Finance, HR, IT and environmental protection. Policies can be written or unwritten formal or informal. Policies can be applied in various areas of organization.

Characteristics of policies

• Policies are continuous process once policies are formed it will work for a long because they are remote control for action. 
• There is a limit of staff members to work within the Framework in the organization to achieve goal. 

• Rules and policies are important tools to promote consistency on work to achieve the Desire gold in the organization where policies provide guidance based on solid principle for decision making. And rules are develop to address specific issues or situations. 

• Objective is a point what is to be accomplished by the organization and policies are the guidance which specify that how the objectives will be accomplished. 

Types of policies

1.Organization policies :- organization policies are related to the whole organization that help to accomplish object or goal of the organization. 

2.Supportive policies :- supportive policies as name supports organizational policies for proper implementation of organizational policies in different different department. 

3.Departmental policies :- departmental policies are related to the department of the organization which are concerned with day to day operation of a particular department. 

Ex. If company want to achieve any particular number of sales then the policy which is made by the policy maker in the organization will work for sales department. 

4.Composite policies:- To achieve objective of the organization. organizational members may follow number of policies to make decision effectively in that area, all these policies taken together are called composite policies.
